History

Moscow pumping plant was founded in 1864 as iron-cast workshops and was considered as a part of Dobrov’s and Nabholz’s joint-stock society. The society was engaged with iron castings and machine details production. “DOBROV AND NABHOLZ” the partnership of iron casting and machine building production was founded in Moscow in 1890 by mechanic engineer S.A.Dobrov and inheritors of Swiss citizen B.I. Nabholz. It was one of the major Russian machine building companies. In 1871 the enterprise was equipped with 2 steam-engines by total yield 20 horsepower and 2 steam boilers. And already in 1896 there were on the enterprise 4 steam-engines by total yield 130 horsepower and 3 steam boilers. The enterprise manpower steadily rose, so in 1871 283 persons worked there, in 1896 1024 persons, in 1909 1600 persons, and in 1917 there worked already 2000 people in the enterprise. To the end of XIX century the plant mastered mechanical processing and assembly, so the plant became a machine-building one and launched the output of simple steam machines and mill machines, diverse hydraulic turbines of small and middle capacity, machine-tools, economizers, various drives and other machines. The plant started iron-casting and copper casting, it produced roller machines and later on looms, turbines, crude-oil engines.

In the beginning of XX century the plant ranked third in Moscow on a scale of productivity, being inferior only of plants of Bromley the Brothers and the joint stock company “Gustav List”. In 1893 the Trading house built mechanical and iron foundry in Nizhniy Novgorod the town. This plant was equipped with a steam machine by 23 horsepower and 2 steam boilers. In 1896-1897 498 workers were occupied in the plant, in 1904 305 workers. The plant produced milling equipment, iron casting, was engaged with repair works. In the beginning of XX century the plant became one of the significant machine building enterprises of pre-revolutionary Russia. To the beginning of the World War I, the partnership started output of war products. The partnership had divisions, which acted in many towns: Saratov, Samara, Ekaterinburg, Rostov-na-Donu, Kursk, Tomsk, Ekaterinoslav, Odessa, Khar’kov, Poltava. After 1925, the fundamental modernization of the plant started. In 1927 on a base of modern equipment, the plant got up production of simple machines, details and equipment for fluid pumping. Nevertheless as a specialized pump production plant of the country-scale significance. the LGM plant becomes known in 30-ies of XX century under name of Third State pumping-turbinal plant named after M.I.Kalinin.

Within 1937-1940 there were designed and produced 83 standard sizes of pump new highly economical pumps – series like NK, NKM and ND for pure water, series like NBS and NKB for pumping of kerosene and petroleum.

In years of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) notwithstanding that a part of the plant was evacuated to Ural and many plant’s workers went as soldiers to the front line and in citizens-in-arms movement, under command of the chief designer Kotov, the plant mastered production of new kinds of military items and started to deliver stocks and carriages to mortars, bombs, shells and grenades for supplying army with weapon and ammunition. For successful work in war years most plant workers were honored with high state rewards. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet Union dated of September, 16 1945 for successful tasks implementation in weapon and ammunition production in years of the Great Patriotic War, the plant was rewarded with The Order of Red Banner of Labor.

After-war period is characterized for the plant with a new stage of development. The plant broadens significantly assortment of produced pumps and delivers them on objects of the national economy being under construction or under recovery. Our plant pumps are installed in Moscow subway, in Golodnaya Step’, in many hydroelectric power stations, on the atom-powered ship “V.I.Lenin”, on enterprises of major chemistry and metallurgy integrated plants. The plant production gives a good account not only in our country but even far beyond its frontiers. Kalinin’s plant workers’ hands made the pumps being installed on Bkhilaiskii metallurgy integrated plant, on Assuan dam, on nuclear power plants and other objects.

In 70-ies-80-ies of previous century on the plant, the settlement of special ship pumps production began on a base of titanium alloys. This required introduction of new technologies, welding and mechanical treatment. In 1980 after embracement of the nuclear-power submarine of third generation in the strength of national navy, the USSR government appreciated in value the deposit of the plant team in the nuclear-power submarine creation. The plant Director Podrechnev A.M became a laureate of state prize for production of special pumps in time and on high quality level.

In 1992 the Moscow pumping plant named after M.I.Kalinin became an open joint-stock company specialized in production of vaned hydraulic machines (LGM the open joint stock company). In 2006 the LGM plant manufacturing facilities changed base for a new site and after launching of recreated test center and acoustic laboratory, the first pumps were produced. In 1993 for needs of the national navy, Russian Federation government charged LGM with a task of production settlement of new hermetic pumps with increased requirements in vibration and noise characteristics. The LGM team fulfilled this task and in November 2007 14 samples of pumps were accepted by State Committee.

Now the presence of engineers and experienced workers enables LGM to produce 14 various pump groups counting about 200 product articles.
